Amex Platinum loses Lufthansa lounge access from 1 October 2026
American Express has ended its Lufthansa lounge agreement. From 1 October 2026, Platinum and Centurion cardmembers can no longer use Lufthansa Business, Senator or First lounges on a same-day Lufthansa Group flight. Here is what you still have.
American Express has ended its lounge agreement with Lufthansa. From 1 October 2026, American Express cardmembers no longer have access to Lufthansa Lounges. Amex's own notice is blunt about it: "American Express Card Members will no longer have access to Lufthansa Lounges effective October 1, 2026." If you held the Platinum Card partly for a guaranteed lounge before a Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian flight out of Frankfurt or Munich, that reason is gone.
What you could do before, and what stops
The Lufthansa benefit was tiered by card and cabin.
| Access | Who had it | Status from 1 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Lufthansa Business Lounges, flying economy on a same-day Lufthansa Group flight | Platinum cardmembers | Removed |
| Lufthansa Senator Lounges, flying business class | Platinum cardmembers | Removed |
| Lufthansa First Lounges (Frankfurt and Munich only; the First Class Terminal was never included) | Centurion cardmembers | Removed |
Lufthansa Group here means Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and the other carriers in the group. The change has been reported as ending the agreement outright, across lounge locations, rather than trimming a few airports.
What you still have
Amex pointed cardmembers to the access that remains, and independent reporting adds one more route:
- Centurion Lounges, Amex's own network, unchanged.
- Delta Sky Club, when you are flying Delta the same day.
- Priority Pass, the Amex version, which still includes a broad lounge list. Some Lufthansa-adjacent lounges may remain reachable indirectly through Priority Pass even though the direct Lufthansa benefit is gone.
- Plaza Premium and the other partner lounges already on the Platinum's list.
Amex did not give a reason. Reporting notes the wider industry pattern of issuers pulling back on third-party lounge deals as the lounges fill up, but that is commentary, not an official explanation.
Who this hits
This is a benefit cut on a card whose fee is justified largely by travel perks. If your Platinum fee math leaned on skipping the paid Lufthansa lounge before long-haul flights, recheck whether the card still earns its keep for how you actually travel, especially if your home airport is a Lufthansa hub where Centurion and Delta options are thin.
Not sure the annual fee still pays for itself once this perk is gone? Run your real spend and travel pattern through CardPolo's card matcher to see which premium cards clear their fee for you, or ask Polo Brain to weigh the lounge access you would actually use against the fee.
